Quarantine update #3

Well, despite not posting anything for the last five months, I have been busy painting away at things every now and again, slowing working through my to-paint list. Motivation comes and goes as I'm working from home at the moment as the lockdown / restrictions from COVID continue where I'm living.

One of the projects that I have finished recently is a bunch of Lord of the Rings miniatures. I think I got these about 15 years ago, and they've probably been gathering dust for most of that time. They were painted by a much younger me, and the paint job was questionable at best. But, that's nothing that a fixed with a good dose of paint stripper. A friend of mine has recently been gathering up as much LOTRSBG as he can, and I expect once we're allowed to catch up again (post COVID lockdown) we'll throw down some games on the table. There are some other characters from a boxed set that I have, but I may end up trading them for some Gondor knights.

One of my friends also picked up a job in another city, so had a clear out of some old Necrons that he didn't want. Everything that I picked up is down below on the left. The Tau are an old project that I had, again when I was much younger. I've got some plans on what do to with the Necrons, noting that they should be getting a new codex (and new units soon). The Tau may get a fresh look at life (be repainted) at some stage. I also finished making a unit of greenstuff scarabs (before I got a whole bunch from my friend).

Attempt at a flayed one conversion on the left. I need to find some knife-hands for him, but that shouldn't be too hard. If I get adventurous, I may attempt some greenstuff flesh.

Attempt at a deathmark conversion. There are plenty of bits leftover from the immortals I've built, so I figured I should do something with them.

Cat tax / future project time. I managed to pick up my cats and catacombs kickstarter a few months back when I was able to get out of the house.

I've converted my old desk in the spare bedroom to be my new office, where I've been working from for the last ~six months. That's included getting a sit-stand raiser, which has taken up almost all the desk space. That kinda killed my hobby enthusiasm for a bit, as I didn't have anywhere permanent to paint. Having moved a few other things around in the room, I pulled out one of our old tables and have now set up a dedicated hobbying space, which certainly makes painting / hobbying easier.

Quarantine update #2!

More Necron painting has been complete! Managed to finish off some Heavy Destroyer conversions. Instead of buying the upgrade pack, I just made some bigger guns. The gun itself is made from the Destroyer kit, Immortal gauss blaster and a Deathmark synaptic disintegrator. I think they look suitably different from a regular destroyer.

Also finished is a base of Scarabs. These are all made of greenstuff, which is something I've been thinking of trying for a bit. I think they came out alright.

Quarantine update!

Smashed out a Necron Nightbringer, nuff said. Only a small amount of greenstuff was required to make the finecast model work..... Still working on some heavy destroyer conversions and some greenstuff scarabs.

Quarantine hobby time!

Well, some good news then some bad news. I'd originally been planning to go on a work trip to the US later this month / early next month that coincided with a 40k tournament that some friends were running. That trip got cancelled, though prior to most countries putting travel bans in place. Good news, I'd be able to make the 40k tournament. Alas, the owners of the venue cancelled all events there, meaning no tournament. While unlucky, probably for the best given everything going on. A silver lining to this is that I'll have more time to get my 2000pts of necrons assembled, painted and maybe have a display done as well! Plenty of time for hobby work now! Few pics of recent things below.

Sprues from recently delivered stuff. Delivery guy asked in anyone at the property had cv-19. Thanks for asking I guess.

First attempt at a green stuff scarab.

Group army shot.

Destroyers.

DIY objective markets. Made with left over bits of sprues.

Converted heavy destroyer.

Group shot of what I've actually painted so far this year.

Funko POP! repaints and Aliens!

Painted up a couple of Funko POP! Space Marine Intercessors as some gifts for friends. Pretty happy with how they turned out.

Thousands Sons repaint next to one out of the box.

3rd Company Imperial Fist Intercessor. I used some old transfers, hence the tactical squad symbol on the right pauldron. Not sure what the marking for Intercessors actually is.

Iron Hands Intercessor.

All together now!

Still working through my AvP minis as well. Finished off the Queen and the Praetorian. This just leaves the Predalien and facehuggers to go.

New Year, New Post

New year, therefore time for a quick blog update. I'd finished and taken photos of these guys a few weeks back but a corrupt SD card on my phone wiped the photos out.

Group shot (warrior, infant, runner)

On the to-do list is a display board for my Necrons, which I'm putting together for a tournament later this year.

As always, the hobby hope is to clear my backlog of unpainted minis. As a few kickstarters arrived last year, that number has increased a fair amount. Currently to paint (or repaint) list is:
- AVP: 18 minis (mostly predators)
- BFG: 36 (Imperial Fleet)
- Dropfleet Commander: 47 (UCM and Scourge)
- Infinity terrain: 18 (range of buildings to scatter terrain)
- Spacehulk: 35
- RPG minis:
- Core Space: ~62
- Deep Madness: (......no idea)

New year, new post (2022 edition)

Well, somehow its 2022. No idea where the time has gone, I'm still mentally stuck in March 2020. Painting has been slow recently, but I ...
